We offer three sessions of weaving classes. Each session consist of five baskets. Check out the fun of weaving!
SESSION I
The first five baskets are designed to teach you the basic beginning weaving techniques.In session I you will learn to weave the following baskets;
NAPKIN- A simple basket designed to teach the basic weaving techniques.
UTENSIL- With this basket you will learn to weave a square base to a round basket. This is a great basket for storing your kitchen utensils.
HEART BASKET- This is a heart shaped basket that introduces you to shaping techniques for weaving.
MELON BASKET- This is an Appalachian style rib basket Similar baskets are also called Egg basket or Buttocks basket.
BERRY BASKET- This is a cute round basket that utilizes a lot of twining techniques. You will also learn to make a handle with this design.
SESSION II
The baskets in session II are more challenging and you will learn more advanced weaving techniques.In session II you will learn to weave the following baskets;
ELBOW BASKET- This basket is sometimes also called a Heart basket. A unique shaped basket with many decorative uses.
SMALL GATHERING BASKET- With this basket you will learn many new weaving techniques, including weaving a solid bottom, decrease weaving, and a braided border.
PASTRY BASKET- This pattern includes a large version that works well for a fruit basket. It has a unique shaped bottom that resembles the old apple field baskets.
TWILL HEART BASKET- With this basket you will be introduced to the twill weave design. This is a small basket with two hearts woven in the bottom.
LARGE GATHERING BASKET- This is a great basket that is fun to weave. It has a Shaker cat head design for the bottom and recessed handles.
SESSION III
The session III baskets will reinforce certain techniques you have already learned and teach you new borders and shaping techniques.You will learn to weave the following baskets in this session;
TWILL MARKET BASKET- This is a very useful basket woven around a D handle.
SEAGRASS STORAGE BASKET- With this large basket you will learn triple weaving, shaping and a three step braided handle.
SEWING BASKET- This is a more challenging basket in which you will learn to weave a reed ledge and a lid.
GRETCHEN BERRY BASKET- This is a round basket woven around a square hoop. It is accented with a heart or an X design woven on the sides.
FISH MOUTH BASKET- This is a unique shaped basket that teaches you chase weave and shaping. You will repeat the braided handle and border you learned previously.
Each subsequent session reinforces skills previously taught and adds new techniques.
Any student completing all three sessions of classes can come back to any scheduled class and attend for half price!
